THE AUSTRALIAN CURRICULUM
The Australian Curriculum is designed to develop:
• Successful learners
• Confident and creative individuals
• Active and informed young people who are ready to take their place in society.
It sets the goal for what all students should learn as they progress through their school life – wherever they live in Australia and whatever school they attend.
The Curriculum at Comet State School
Explicit teaching occurs in all eight key learning areas—English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, Languages, Technologies and the Arts
There are seven general capabilities—literacy, numeracy, information and communication technology capability, critical and creative thinking, personal and social capability, intercultural understanding, and ethical understanding. Our teaching staff ensure these capabilities are applied across the curriculum to help students become successful learners, confident and creative individuals and active and informed citizens.
Throughout their schooling, students develop and use the general capabilities across all learning areas, in co-curricular programs and in their lives outside school.
The Australian Curriculum is based on the belief that to meet the changing expectations of society and to contribute to the creation of a more productive, sustainable and just society, young people will need a wide and adaptive set of knowledge, skills, behaviours and dispositions.
The Australian Curriculum is flexible so that teachers can plan the learning for all their students, also taking into account their local school community.
